It’s a fact.  You can stand anywhere in the state of Michigan  and never be more than 85 miles from one of the Great Lakes.  And you are never more than 6 miles from one of Michigan’s inland lakes.  Our beautiful freshwater is a powerful attraction to visitors worldwide, and a setting to countless weddings and special events throughout the year.  We love our water.  We can’t imagine life without this beautiful backdrop to our daily lives. Here’s another fact:

1 in 8 PEOPLE IN THE WORLD LACK ACCESS TO CLEAN WATER

Think of 8 people that you care about.  Picture one of those people walking miles every day to fill up a 20-liter container with unsafe drinking water from a muddy stream or pond.  Doesn’t seem right does it?

EVERYONE DESERVES ACCESS TO CLEAN WATER

Dirty water kills more people than all forms of violence, including war.  Every 20 seconds, a child dies from a water-related disease. People deserve better than this.  The good news is sometimes access to clean water can be as simple as providing a filter or rainwater cistern.

IT CAN BE DONE 20 LITERS AT A TIME

20 Liters is a 501(c)(3) organization, based in Grand Rapids Michigan, committed to making clean water accessible to the nearly 800 million people who are without it.  How?  By installing sand and membrane (SAM) Water Filters in sub-Saharan Africa.  They do this because they believe every person should have clean water.
